Tackling the loneliness epidemic together
Following the Prime Minister’s wider endorsement of the Jo Cox Commission recommendations on Loneliness in January 2018, there has been an increased focus upon tackling the increasing problem of loneliness and isolation.
In response to this an £11.5 million Building Connections Fund was announced last month aiming to increase support and prevent loneliness by supporting existing services and projects.
CVS and Volunteer Centres’ are perfectly placed to support this vision, and many VCSE organisations already do so much to engage local residents and reduce loneliness. The NHS is recommending more people to get involved with their local community as a way of reducing isolation, with new opportunities to allow you to develop your existing services and reach more residents.
